Precisely how not to schedule your next hiking trip

Now with the advent of July you could say that summer is now in complete bloom. And what better way to indulge in summer than with that very best of summertime entertainments – going to an alternative part of the nation you are not knowledgeable with so as to live in a tent and eat frequently burned or slightly cooked food. Along with this, enjoy the wonders of getting your water from a faucet down the street (if you are lucky) as a substitute for from the well known and convenient sink in your home. And let us not neglect the magic of arising in the middle of the night to grope around for a flashlight so you can talk a walk through the dark unknown to a freezing unlit toilet, oftentimes even of the kind that is not a great deal more than a straightforward hole in the ground. Yes, it is time for that wonder of wonders – camping!

I must confess to having fun in camping, always have. When I was a kid we would certainly all look forward to that two week vacation in the summer. Several months before my Dad would grab the roadmaps of the border states and begin to chat with my Mother about the many different merits of the Oregon Coast compared to the mountains of Washington. They would send away for numerous brochures and look at a bunch of campgrounds in advance of making the decision. Naturally, today it is all easily a matter of pulling up a few queries on the internet to see which State Parks are quite possibly readily available for camping. If you live in California, as I do, you will need to search a bit further than most except if you made a reservation no less than a year in advance. I know some sites that open up for reservations on the same day every single year and are booked solid within a very few hours for the full season.

That being said, I nonetheless experienced a small thrill when a good friend of mine and I decided that this year we really were going to go camping together. We had talked of this this past year, but in some way neither of us at any time got around to taking care of it so we never went. Yet this year, I am determined to find us a camping site and a weekend getaway. Our primary choice, Catalina Island’s Two Harbors looked great at the outset. The internet site was readily available, all the sites had calendars indicating to us which ones were booked and those that were attainable. But after a number of emails to and fro, we determined that the only weekend left obtainable in the summer was the weekend she was traveling away to a Yoga Retreat. Hence, regretfully, we decided that the trip to Catalina Island would have to wait around for for yet another time.

I am nonetheless on the lookout for an alternative campsite but on this occasion I have no illusions. For me to discover something halfway decent that isn’t booked will possibly mean going out of the state. I am organizing to start looking real soon. I may even find something today or tomorrow. Just as soon as I get this blog performed, my writing projects turned in and the pages incorporated to my own sites. Well, probably I will get to it tomorrow. But this week – I mean it – I will get that camping trip planned.
